Platinum-catalysed silicone foam unveiled 25th January 2010
NuSil Technology has launched a new platinum-catalysed silicone foam designed to reduce outgassing in aerospace, electronics and optical applications.
CV-2391, which is the first controlled-volatility offering of its type to hit the market, is capable of both curing at low temperatures and accelerating cure by adding heat, EMT Worldwide reports.
In addition, the foam does not need extra processing to achieve the NASA E 595 standards for Total Mass Loss (less than or equal to one per cent) and Collected Volatile Condensable Material (less than or equal to 0.1 per cent).
"CV-2391 was developed around outgassing concerns that engineers face on a frequent basis," Brian Nash, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at NuSil, told the news provider.
"It provides a unique addition to NuSil's line of controlled volatility (low outgassing) silicones and, at the same time, offers the versatility and benefits of a foam."
The design also provides shock and vibration dampening, improved fuel economy and a safeguard against unwanted particles entering certain types of electrical component.
NuSil was founded in 1979, received its ISO 9001 certificate in 1994 and currently operates from its headquarters in California, Texas and Sophia Antipolis, France.
