Platinum sunglasses are £26k optional extra with Bentley 6th February 2012

Bentley is offering a pair of luxury platinum sunglasses as a £26,000 optional extra for anyone buying its Mulsanne model.

The item, which the carmaker says should be seen as a piece of jewellery to sit alongside the £225,000 car, is made by Austrian firm Estede.

Each pair of the aviators is hand-crafted from platinum to the specifications of the buyer.

The frames come with Bentley's Flying B logo in polished enamel and can be adorned with diamonds and other precious stones for an extra cost.

According to the Daily Mail, 25 of the platinum glasses have been snapped up so far, while a further 70 buyers have opted for a gold version.

Christoph Rosenauer, spokesman for Estede, told the newspaper: "There's a basic design but customers can request them in a different size or, for example, with diamonds at the temples."

A customer from Dubai ordered a special lens and a special case in three different tones to match his vehicle, while one buyer from Hong Kong requested three sets, he added.

Other luxury items, including timepieces by Breitling, have previously been created with the Bentley logo.
